My name is Julie Rogers and I am blessed to be a part of the Assumption family as the Learning Consultant.

I taught 4 years in an institutional setting, 13 years at St. Monica, and 8 years at St. Joseph Manchester. I was thrilled to begin teaching at Assumption in 2015.

I have Bachelor's degrees in Elementary and Special Education and a Masters in Special Education with an emphasis on Inclusion. I am also certified to teach students with Learning Disabilities and Behavioral Disorders. I have been trained in the Wilson Reading System and as a Youth Mental Health First Aider. I have taught various grade levels, in all subjects, with students who have a variety of learning needs and behavior issues.

My philosophy for learning is that each child is unique, and each child learns in a different ways. My goal is to maximize your child’s strengths in order to make him/her confident in his/her learning.

As for my personal life, I have 2 grown sons and 3 grandchildren. I have too many box and water turtles to count in my "turtle haven". I love to play with my dog, garden and read in the sun.

What I Do?

*I work with students that are struggling in reading, math, or other subjects who may need one-on-one instruction, test help, or a quiet location to do work.
*I provide support services to enhance the student’s organizational and communication skills in the regular classroom.
*I am a resource for the teachers.
*Each student has a learning profile. The learning profiles are on the needs of each student and what accommodations they require.During the year, the learning profiles are updated so that the teachers have current information about each of their students.
*Students with learning needs will also receive accommodations on standardized tests; such as extended time, quiet location, or the test being read.
*I work closely with SSD; providing the information they need to evaluate a student for a learning disability. I arrange testing dates and times, attend meetings regarding the education plan and any follow-up meetings.
*I keep the teachers apprised of the testing results, help develop and administer accommodations, and monitor the progress.
*I am a resource for you. Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you have.

As a side note, I have been working with students who have reading difficulties with the Wilson Reading System. The Wilson program is used with students at Churchill school which caters to children with reading disabilities.

At Assumption we work hard to make sure every student is successful. We believe all students can learn. All have skills and talents to offer. All are unique and should be respected and valued.
