English: Lessons 14-16 will be covered with a set given each lesson. On Wednesday, Sept. 25 we will have a grammar test and share our "spooky" creative writing stories.

Vocabulary: Unit 3 5x's each is due Thursday, Sept. 26th and the spelling test is Friday, Sept. 27th. Workbook pages for Unit 3 are due Wednesday, Oct. 2nd and the content test is Friday, Oct. 4th. www.sadlierconnet.com is a great way to review the unit concepts.

Literature: We will read a fun story that is a book of poetry. We will discuss the different styles of poetry and then read AND listen to the story. This is a great way for the students to understand the rhyme, meter, and cadence of poems. By mid week, we will create our own poems and illustrations to share with the class. I am going to introduce a "group" novel with the class. This is a novel that they will read in class, discussing as they go with guided reading questions.

Math: Lessons 16-20 will be covered with a set given each day. Make sure your child is practicing their math facts daily. www.factmonster.com is a great online resource to achieve this practice.

Writing: We will do in class cursive practice and journal writing.

Genius Hour: Tuesday ALL slide presentations are due. Tuesday and Thursday are presentations of their topics.

Tuesday the final draft will be due and we will present them to the class. Wednesday we will begin Unit 2: Animal Eyes. This focusses on the point of view of the writer and the voice they are portraying. The class will read "from Pax" which is a story from a fox's perspective.

Literature: We begin Unit 2:The Thrill of Horror. This unit will focus on the horror genre and all the elements that make it up. We will look at extreme and absolute language and well as literary criticism, paraphrasing and summarizing. Our first piece, "What is Horror Genre?" will be read and discussed.

Writing: We will do in class cursive practice and journal writing.

Genius Hour: Tuesday ALL slide presentations are due. Tuesday and Thursday are presentations of their topics.
