We will be working on our Spring Concert songs in every grade, but here’s a look at the other things we will be working on in Music Class.

Pre-School: We will be enjoying our spring songs, including songs about bees, bunnies and flowers!

K & Grade 1: Kindergarten and First Grade will do some listening activities and also learn about rhythmic ostinatos, playing classroom rhythm instruments. We are continuing to work on keeping a steady beat and reading rhythms.

Grade 2: Second Grade finished up our unit on “Peter and the Wolf” by Sergei Prokoviev by watching a couple of different versions of the story. This is a great way to hear some fabulous music while learning about the instruments of the orchestra. We will also be working on some rhythmic improvisation.

Grades 3-4: Students will continue working on recorder and also using MusicPlay to review various musical concepts including note reading, rhythm reading, tempos, and ostinatos. Fourth grade will continue using “Recorder Karate”, earning more belts. They have been absolute rock stars with recorder this year!!

Grades 5-6: Fifth Grade did a fantastic job at the Elementary Song Festival at Duchesne High School at the beginning of the month! Sixth Grade finished up our study of jazz and will be looking at some new musical forms and trickier rhythm patterns.

Grades 7- We have been studying Beethoven and the Romantic period of classical music this month. There are so many amazing works that exemplify this period of music history and I’ve been excited to share some of my favorite classical pieces, including works by Mussorgsky and Rachmaninoff, while we work on this unit.

Grade 8: We have continued our guitar curriculum, improving our note reading on the first 2 strings. We are going back to chords and will be reviewing several songs and learning a few new ones!

All of our levels of band have been doing great work this semester!

Many of our band members have been racing through their Band Karate levels- super impressive!!

The Beginning Band is getting used to playing full band arrangements, including a march, an arrangement of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, and a tricky piece called “Shine!” for our concert.

Our Intermediate/Advanced Band has also been working on full band concert music, preparing four pieces, including full band arrangements of Star Wars and Superheroes movie themes. These are in addition to the festival pieces that we are excited to perform with our Intermediate band students added to our full band sound. It’s so great to hear our band students performing so well! Please join us for one of concerts so that you can hear for yourself!
