Overview
I am excited to see all of you again in September and to meet our new students so that I can continue to share my love of music with all of you! Until that time, you will still have music class and I’ve been working hard on lesson plans for my substitute teacher so that you will still learn lots during August while I am gone. I will be back in September and will be so excited to get started with you then! We will study the elements of music including rhythm, melody, timbre, form, expression, texture and harmony. Students at all levels will experience music through listening, performing, moving, creating, and describing. Most importantly, we will have fun with music!
Grades PreK-2: Students will concentrate on listening to folk songs, nursery rhymes, moving to music and doing basic rhythm activities using classroom percussion instruments.
Grades 3-4: Students will build on the musical concepts we learned last year using the recorder. The recorder is a great introduction to wind instruments and helps students learn to read standard music notation. As soon as we get our recorders in, we will be starting with recorders in class!
Grades 5-8: Students will build on the musical concepts we learned last year, listening to music from many genres and composers, learning more complex rhythms and creating basic compositions. Grades 7-8 will also be using listening journals this year.

CCSB (Consolidated Catholic Schools Band)
I am looking forward to getting back to band with my Intermediate (Grade 5) and Advanced Band (Grades 6,7,and 8) during the week of September 15. In School Lessons for each group are divided by grade level and we have combined full band After School rehearsals. Our after school rehearsals are at St. Cletus- super convenient for our St. Cletus families!
The schedule for in-school lessons will be Grade 5 Intermediate on Wednesdays and Grade 6-8 on Thursdays. Beginning Band will meet on Mondays or Wednesdays depending on the instrument.
Full band after-school rehearsals, combining students from the different schools, are on Mondays for Beginners, Tuesdays for Intermediate and Thursdays for Advanced Band. All the bands will be having a Christmas concert, band tour, and a spring concert plus other performances throughout the year for the Advanced Band. It’s so exciting to be starting another great year of CCSB! If you have any questions, please let me know.
Beginning Band
We will be starting the Beginning Band on September 15. Beginning Band is for any student grades in grades 4-8. You DO NOT have to have any previous experience. That is my job : ) Be looking for information to come home in August.
