Spring Vocal Concert- All grade levels will be performing at our annual Spring Concert on Wednesday, May 21 at 1:30 p.m. The students have been working hard preparing this music since the beginning of the month and are sounding great! Consolidated Catholic Schools Band- Grades 4-8
Elementary Band Tour- On Thursday, May 1, the band students from St. Cletus, along with the rest of the CCSB, will be performing concerts at St. Cletus, Seton Regional, and for the residents at Boulevard Senior Living. We are so excited to share our music with the students and the seniors that day! We will be performing at St. Cletus at 8:30 am. I would like to invite you to come hear the wonderful music these students are making!

Band Concert- Monday, May 12 at 6:30 pm in the St. Cletus gym. I’m very excited about this concert! Sister Gail Buckman, S.S.N.D., will be conducting our Advanced/Intermediate band on the first movement of “St. Charles Suite.” This piece was written for the Consolidated Catholic Schools Band and premiered in May of 1995, when Sister Gail was the director of the band. At that time the CCSB was made up of students from St. Cletus, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, St. Peter, and St. Robert. I am so excited for this performance and the chance to celebrate the 30th anniversary of this piece as well as Sister Gail, who recently retired after 55 years of teaching! Sister Gail was also recently inducted into the Missouri Music Educators Hall of Fame for her contributions to Music Education in Missouri. She is truly an extraordinary educator! Please join us!

Musical Concepts Covered this School Year in Addition to Our Christmas & Spring Concerts
Pre-School: Students worked on interacting with music through singing, dancing and playing instruments.
Kindergarten, First and Second Grade: Students worked on pitch matching, feeling and moving to a steady beat, dynamics, listening skills, concert etiquette, and used classroom instruments plus lots of singing.
Third and Fourth Grade: Students have worked on music reading, musical concepts, and improvisation using recorders and singing. We also learned about instruments of the orchestra and instruments from Japan. Fourth grade has been using “Recorder Karate” and they are doing an awesome job earning their belts!
Fifth & Sixth Grade: Students learned many musical concepts including note reading, rhythm reading, major/minor keys, using patterns to create scales, chord structure, time signatures, and musical form.
Seventh Grade: We have been studying the style periods of Classical music in the European tradition, including Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, and Romantic/Impressionism. Students learned the major composers of each period and where they fit in history. We also explored Chrome Music Lab, creating rhythms and melodies.
Eighth Grade: We worked on guitar, learning chords and note reading and learning to play basic melodies and accompaniments. Students also used listening journals to develop critical listening skills.
