Sts. Joachim & Ann Bulletin Board

I think it is now public knowledge that I am retiring from full-time teaching at the end of this school year. When my husband and I moved back to the area after his retirement, I was looking for a place to finish my teaching career. I found myself at Sts. Joachim and Ann, and it has been such an amazing place to teach and learn! I am so excited to also pass on that Mrs. Karandzieff, who has been working tirelessly as the Jr. Kindergarten aide, will be the new third grade teacher for next year. I could not have written a better scenario. My sadness at leaving is painted with joy at the amazing teacher who will enter this classroom.

We are almost at the end of April, which means that the "A-B-C countdown" has begun. We made and flew paper airplanes on Friday afternoon to celebrate "A Day." We can look forward to this week:

Monday: Bubble gum day. I am providing sugar-free bubble gum for the class. We will also be celebrating Earth Day
Tuesday: Crazy Sock Day AND Cinema Day. Students may wear crazy socks to school, and it is pink reading shirt day. We will also be watching the video, The Indian in the Cupboard. I finished reading the book to the class on Friday. The students really enjoyed the book. We will be doing some comparing/contrasting writing for the book and the video.
Wednesday: Directed Drawing Day.
Thursday: Extra Recess Day
Friday: TBD

Literacy
Our reader story beginning Wednesday is called, "Fly, Eagle, Fly!" In Grammar we will be learning about prepositions and prepositional phrases. Students are still working on the Jamboards and writing their expository piece on a non-fiction topic of their choice. I have conferenced with almost everyone last week and will finish with the remaining students this week. We have been working on fact and opinion. Here are the spelling words for the test Tuesday:

Math
We have finished customary and metric units of length, capacity, and weight. We have also learned about telling time to the minute. We will review elapsed time on Monday, review Tuesday, and test on Wednesday. On Thursday we will start Data Analysis with graphs.

Religion
We have finished discussing the time after the resurrection and the ascension. We have been talking a LOT this week about the Holy Spirit and the gifts of the Holy Spirit: joy, peace, patience, and others.

Science
As I said, we will be finishing this unit on Geology on Tuesday. Wednesday we will begin our unit on Botany, even though we kind of got a head start this week when we planted bean seeds. The students are carefully monitoring their potential seedlings to give them a healthy start. I really hope that we see something when we return on Monday.

Social Studies
The students are still working on their group projects on the 3 Branches of Government. I hope for them to be ready to present next week.
