WELCOME BACK!!!
THANK YOU TO JOE COLEMAN AND SON ENVIROMENTAL SERVICES FOR ADOPTING OUR CLASS!!!
*The curriculum in 4th grade is a BIG jump from 3rd grade. They will be doing every subject everyday. The kids are responsible for all of their work and it is due the next day. They get time to work on every assignment in class and we will have a study hall at the end of every day. When they have a test they receive the study guide a week ahead of time. So there is plenty of time to study.*
Homework will be in three different forms
-Preparing for tests
-Finishing assignments that we given in class
-Working on papers or projects.
Your child will not be given work that we have not already learned about or discussed in class. I will always give the kids time to work on the lesson after it has been presented. That way I can help those that need a little extra help. Kids that do not make good use of their class time will have more homework. Also all assignments are written on the board and your child will be asked to write them down daily.
Tests: I will always let the kids know when there is a test coming up. They will receive a “Future Plans” paper like the one I attached. Your child will be asked to bring it home and have it signed so that I know that everyone is aware of the upcoming test. I will usually provide a study guide and we will review in class. You can expect your child to have a test at the end of the unit in Math, Science, Social Studies, Religion and English. Students will have weekly Spelling quizzes and tests. In fourth grade it is important that your child develop good work habits and study skills. We will be working on being organized and responsible for our work. It is very important that they always focus and pay attention during class.
School Wide Homework Policy: (Per the handbook) We implemented a zero tolerance attitude policy toward late work. Grades 3-8 will not accept any paper or assignment after the day it is due. A student may finish the assignment by then end of the next day and turn it in by the end of the next school day but it will receive a late grade. After that they will receive a zero for a grade. Students will have to use their recess or study hall time to do this.
Discipline System: I am starting something that will be a little new to the kids this year. The older classes use it so I am getting them started on how things work as you get into the older grades. We are going to be using mark sheets. I will give them some time to get used to it before I start the disciplinary part of it. The kids will get marks for not doing what they are supposed to. Once they get to 4 marks in a day that will be a detention. The other marks up to that will first be a warning then minutes out of recess, and parents will be notified.
Rules: The rules in this classroom are like most classrooms.
-Be respectful of others and their belongings.
-Be responsible
-Always do your best
***As a class, we have discussed the rules so they know what is expected of
them.***
Helpful Tips:
-be consistent with your schedule for doing homework
-always ask to see your child's assignment book to make sure that they are using it and so that they don't forget about an assignment.
-encourage your child to be INDEPENDENT and RESPONSIBLE
-encourage them to always use their class time
-COMMUNICATE please let me know if your child is having problems with anything. I believe the connection between home and school is essential and your support is a large part of your child’s success in school and beyond. Feel free to contact me with questions, comments, or concerns. I will answer emails as soon as I can.
