It is hard to believe that it is already September. I am sure many of you are wishing it would all slow down a little bit as well. However, time keeps moving and we keep moving with it in fifth grade.

The school year and all the learning that it includes is also progressing quickly. We have had some busy weeks and I am proud of the fifth grade and all that they have already accomplished including many of the routines and procedures we need for the day to day operations of a smooth classroom.

Thank you for helping you child get his/her assignment book signed each night and for the many communications that have come my way. Most of us have gotten in an excellent routine of using class time for work, and making sure all homework is turned in upon returning to school. They have also gotten better about emptying their mailboxes each afternoon. I try and get everything graded and returned within a day or two. I have also pointed out to the students that most of their corrected work has the correct answer written on it so that they can use it as a tool to study for tests.

We are already through a test or two in almost every subject. This next week we will have our second social studies and science tests. This next week we also have our first book report due. Please help your child work to get this turned in on Monday.

Even though we are working very hard, we have had a lot of fun, exploring the animal kingdom and scientific classification. Ask your child about our classroom animals. We are reading "Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes." This has begun a quest to make as many origami cranes as we can to fill our classroom before we are done reading. We also have had two opportunities to meet and read with our reading buddies. Those first graders love the time they have with our children!

This next week we have our first choir practice on Tuesday afternoon. We also have chapel with our faith families. You can be watching fast direct for more information about that. Next Monday, Sept. 14 we will have our first trip to our library.

It was wonderful to see so many of you at Orientation this week. I am really looking forward to this year. Just a few reminders:

Monday is Chapel so please wear chapel dress (no spirit T-shirts). There will be a parent reception from 8:00-8:45.

Chapel begins at 8:45 and we love to see parents there so please stay if you can. Then trust that I will take great care of your fifth graders as we begin our new roll of being students UPSTAIRS.

School is dismissed at noon. There will be after school care provided if you have need of that but we will not pause for lunch that day in our classroom. You may still send in a snack.

Tuesday is a full day and we will have P.E. Do not worry about P.E. uniforms that day because they are ordered and coming in. However, make sure you child is wearing tennis shoes.
