Welcome to the start of the second trimester here at Immaculate. I am very excited to teach 8th grade math this year. I run a student-centered classroom that promotes positive learning for all students. I have high expectations for my students. Math is everywhere and used every day. My goal is for the students to enjoy learning math in a fun and unique way! I look forward to a successful trimester for all our students.

Grades:

Grades are earned, not given. Turning in the very best work possible and on time are ways to help improve one’s math grade!

Your grade will be calculated as:

Test:

Tests are given at the end of each unit. Prior to each test we will review the skills being tested including working through problems that will be similar to the question on the test. To allow tests to carry more weight in a student's grade each question will be worth 3 points.

Quizzes:

Quizzes will be given at the end of each Module. Prior to each quiz we will review the skills being evaluated including working through problems that will be similar to the quiz. To allow quizzes to carry more weight in a student’s grade each question will be worth 2 points,

I-Ready:

I-Ready is a weekly assignment that students are required to complete. Students are given from Monday until 11 pm on Sunday to complete. Each student is expected to pass 2 lessons with a minimum of 67%. Each passed lesson is worth a total of 5 points. If lessons are not complete by 11 pm on Sunday, students must make them up the following week for half credit, 2.5 per lesson. Each lesson is designed to be completed in about 20 to 30 minutes if a student is focusing on the lesson.


Classwork/homework:

At the end of each section of a module there is an independent practice assignment that will be assigned for each student to complete. Students are given time in class to work on this assignment and will finish it at home if needed. The assignment is due the following day.

Make-ups:

Work missed due to being absent is the student’s responsibility. You must check with me to see what you missed. Work should be completed within 2 days of an absence.

Corrections:

Students may complete corrections on assessments and independent practice assignments for half credit. Students will be given 1 week from the day the assignment is returned to complete corrections.
