P4 Class Monday, May 19th - Friday, May 23rd. --- **WEEKLY THEME: Incredible Insects!** **Overall Focus:** This week, we'll dive into the amazing world of insects! We'll discover how unique and important these tiny creatures are, learning about their different shapes, sizes, and the fascinating things they do. **Learning About: The World of Bugs!** * **Insect Body Parts:** We'll learn about the three main parts of an insect's body: the **head**, **thorax**, and **abdomen**, and how they help insects move and live. * **Different Types of Insects:** We'll explore various insects like **butterflies**, **bees**, **ladybugs**, and **ants**, discovering what makes each one special. * **Where Insects Live:** We'll talk about the different **habitats** insects call home, from gardens to forests and even underground. * **What Insects Eat:** We'll learn about what insects eat, whether they're munching on leaves, sipping nectar, or helping to keep our environment clean. * **The Importance of Insects:** We'll discover how insects help our world, from **pollinating** flowers to being a food source for other animals. --- **Fun Things We'll Do (Insect Adventures)!** * **Bug Hunt Scavenger Hunt:** We'll go on a pretend or real **bug hunt** (if outdoors and safe) to spot different insects and talk about their colors and movements. * **Insect Craft Creations:** We'll get crafty making our own insect friends! Think colorful **butterfly wings**, spotted **ladybugs**, or busy **bees** out of various materials. * **"Crawl Like an Insect" Movement Game:** We'll mimic how different insects move, from fluttering like a butterfly to wiggling like a worm or scurrying like an ant. * **"What's My Insect?" Guessing Game:** We'll give clues about different insects, and everyone can guess which bug we're describing. * **Building an Ant Farm (or Observation Jar):** If possible, we can create a simple **ant farm** or an observation jar to watch insects up close (and release them safely afterward!). --- **WEEKLY LETTER:** Review of Alphabet **WEEKLY STORIES:** * *The Very Hungry Caterpillar* by Eric Carle * *Diary of a Worm* by Doreen Cronin * *The Grouchy Ladybug* by Eric Carle **WEEKLY SONGS:** * "The Ants Go Marching" * "Little Miss Muffet" (with a friendly spider focus!) * "Bumblebee, Bumblebee, Won't You Stay Awhile?" Every Monday, your child will bring home a little book to help them learn a new letter. Inside, they'll find a picture to color, words to trace and to copy. Please spend a few minutes each day reviewing the book with your child. It's a great way to help them learn and have fun at the same time! I also will be sending home weekly "Homework"for the letter of the week in addition to the booklet. If returned they can receive a special star sticker. Specials Gym- Monday and Tuesday Art- Wednesday Library-Friday Music- Wednesday and Thursday CENTER TIME: a time for learning through play, arts and crafts, and fine motor development. WEEKLY NUMBER/MATH: counting to 30 RELIGION: P4 will use the Religion series entitled, "God Made Me" from Loyola Press Lesson: God made land MUSIC: Dr. Knowlton is our music teacher. The children attend music every Wednesday and Thursday. LIBRARY: Mrs. Burke is our librarian.
