Hi Everyone!

My name is Eloise Heinrich and I am the new Art Teacher. I'm excited to get to know everyone and be a part of the IC Community! I have been teaching for roughly 7 years and am also a ceramic artist. I teach at Harper College and NEIU as well as run the Youth Ceramics Department at Glenview Parks District. My husband and I are expecting our first child in January so I will be on maternity leave Winter break- early March, depending on how our little guy is doing! Even though I have a full schedule, I'm always happy to work with the parents and students throughout the semester. What the classes are doing now:

P4- Stained Glass- We learned about stained glass and where we’ve seen it before and then made mini stained glass in frames.

K- Color Pallet Mice- We made paint pallets and painted the Primary and Secondary colors on our pallets. We also made mice and paint brushes and glued them to our pallets to make mini-painters!
Mittens- We spent time in class learning how to make Mittens by tracing our hands. The kids then decorated the mittens and added pompoms and fluff for a wintery decoration!

1- Mouse Rothko’s- We learned about the artist Mark Rothko and his large colorful paintings, we made our own mini version of these practicing mixing colors. In the end we made a mouse painter who “painted” all the art pieces.

2- Fauvism:Beasts!- We learned about the art period Fauvism and making things the wrong color. The kids painted sheets of paper with watercolors and then cut out and reassembled an animal onto their paper.
Folkart Christmas Trees- We learned what Folktales means and are exploring how pictures can tell a story with our Fantastical Christmas Trees.

3- Warm/Cool Hand Illusions- We learned about warm and cool colors and made hand illusions with them coloring in a pattern.

4-5- Puppets- We are learning how to make and decorate our own puppets. The kids are making the bodies, joints, controls, and decorating themselves!

6-Soft Sculpture:Foods- We are designing and creating our own soft sculptures of food. We are learning about Claus Oldenberg and his soft sculpture. After designing what food they want to make, we are cutting them out of felt, stuffing them, and adding details.

7-Pointillism Portraits:Celebrity Edition- We are learning about pointillism and Georges Seurat. The kids picked a celebrity and are creating a portrait of them with pointillism. They will pick an image, print it and trace their picture onto a piece of paper. Then by using dots teh kids will create their portraits.

8- Gesture Sculptures- We are learning about the artist Nick Cave and his sound suits. The kids are designing what gesture their sculpture will have and creating them out of foil. We will then mount and paint these sculptures!




Late Work Policy for Graded Students:

In order to keep students on task and not be overwhelmed with late projects I have a Late Work Policy. This means that work that is late receives a -10% from the final grade. Students who have late work can take the work home to finish the project and bring it back the following week before I count it late. Please do NOT put art in my mailbox, it will get crunched up, just drop it off in my room along with any borrowed materials!

Class Extensions are on a case by case basis. If the class is working hard but taking a bit longer I will give them extra time, they will have clear goals to hit (behavioral and work wise) to earn these extensions.

Individual Extensions are if you are sick or absent or if you are struggling to finish a project. This means you are working hard to finish but need some more time/help, not if you are goofing around instead of working. When you have a problem come and talk to me so I can help you! I can't help if I don't know there's a problem!!
