Welcome to the KinderNews. This newsletter will be sent home each Friday or last day of the school week. It will update you on the activities we do each week. I will print snack reminders and special events coming up. You can also view the KinderNews on my Fast Direct bulletin board.

Attached to the newsletter is a form for Church and Sunday School attendance. We give quarterly awards for perfect Church and Sunday School attendance. Regular Church attendance is important to your family's faith growth. Please fill out the form and return in your child's folder on Monday.

Dear Kindergarten families: thank you so very much for the cards and gift you gave to us for Christmas. Your generosity is very much appreciated. We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas holiday. God's blessings to you in the new year. Mrs. DeRousse and Mrs. Schmitz

A note went home on Thursday regarding pet pictures. We are studying characteristics of pets in Science class. If you child has a pet, you may email me 1 or 2 pictures of their pet(s). My email is: bschmitz@stjohnsredbud.org. If your child does not have a pet, you may send a picture of a pet they would like to have or picture of a relative's pet. Please email the pictures by next Friday, January 16. We will share about our pets in class.

It's hard to believe that the 100th day of school is almost here. In Kindergarten, it has been my tradition to celebrate this special day. We have been counting the days since the first day. On Friday, January 30, I will have special "100" themed stations set up in the old gym and cafeteria. Your child is asked to invite a guest or guests who will help them with the stations. We will have a snack and enjoy many activities. The form went home on Thursday. Please return the form by Friday, January 23.

Today, two 100th day projects went home. The big 100 cut out is due by Friday, Jan.23 and the 100 looks like this bag is due Friday, Jan. 16. Explanations and due dates are attached to both.

The week of Jan. 25-Feb. 3 is National Lutheran Schools Week. Watch the Cougar Tracks for special dress up days and activities. We'll also be singing in church on the 24th or 25th.

On the back page of our phonics worksheets (letter sheets) is a dotted box. Each day at school we will echo read these words. They are high frequency words, meaning we'll see them a lot as we are learning our reading skills. Please echo read these with your child every day. As they are learned, allow your child to read them.

As cold weather approaches, we will try to go outside for recess as much as possible. We do not go outside when the temperature is below 32 degrees and/or if their is snow on the ground. Please send warm coats, hats and gloves when the weather calls for it. Also remember to dress your child in layers, a short sleeve under a long sleeve, as it gets warm in the building.
